A Note from Mrs. Cureton...

Welcome to the 2026-2027 school year! This year brings several exciting changes to our campus. We are now fully engaged in an 1882 partnership with UT Tyler for a teacher residency program-you will see that we have a handful of "resident teachers" on our campus this year. We are excited to have these teachers in training on our campus for the full calendar year and can't wait to see the impact they have with our Cougars! You can expect your Cougar to experience more opportunities this year, that are unique to our partnership with UT Tyler. If you have any questions about this partnership or our campus experiences this year, please let me know.

We are so glad you and your family have chosen Clarkston and entrusted us with your most precious gifts-your kids!

2026-2027 School Year: Reminder! All students returning to Tyler ISD next year must be re-enrolled for the upcoming school year. To complete your student's enrollment, please access your parent account here. If you have questions or need help with enrollment, please visit this site.

Meet the Teacher: Monday, August 10th, 5:30pm-7:00pm

First Day of School: Wednesday, August 12th. Families may walk students into the building, starting at 7:30am (through the front entrance of the school), on Wednesday (8/12) and Thursday (8/13) only. If you are just dropping your student(s) off in the morning, you can drop off at the cafe doors from 7:00am--7:50am. Instruction starts @7:50am.

Student Handbook: I also want to provide an electronic copy of the student handbook flyer. Please review the important details of this flyer and use the QR code on the flyer to review the handbook, in-depth, if you need or want additional details. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1n5DZuPsnl0Co7JpMq5LEg9ldpEmdh1hALhaTvx0YH4g/edit?usp=drive_link

Supply Lists: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1V4o70o4I5OxENe4p_mh2BoVgfLrZLAfC/view?usp=drive_link

Discipline: I want to provide all of our families with a link to view our discipline flowchart that is used school-wide, in all pre-k--5th grade classrooms. Please take a moment to review, with your child, so that we can partner together to ensure that all of our students understand the importance of doing their best at school and the consequences that will follow if behavior expectations are not met.https://drive.google.com/file/d/1yZa-tGxTEvsqjVuaI9QqZfRz3QIJ8pDS/view?usp=drive_link

Title I Family-School Compact: Clarkston is a Title I campus and receives federal funding to enrich the student experience on our campus through student-choice clubs, data tracking, individualized instruction, and other activities/events to best support our students. All students were provided a copy of this form upon enrollment or Meet the Teacher Night. Electronic copy here if you would like to view: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1UVRfJuyjUJT9jHj3-VJiPWDY1hm2s_aJ/view?usp=sharing

Student Birthdays:

We love celebrating our students! If your student would like to share their birthday with his/her class, you are welcome to drop off a store-bought treat to the front office or send with your student to enjoy with his/her class. Please contact your student's teacher regarding allergies.

To help us maintain a consistent instructional environment and campus safety, birthday celebrations will take place with the teacher and classmates at the end of the school day. We ask that family members not visit classrooms for birthday celebrations during instructional time. Thank you for helping us make every student's birthday feel special while keeping the focus on learning. We appreciate your understanding and support!

Campus Visitors:

Parents/Guardians are welcome to join their student(s) during lunch times only. Any visitors to campus must enter through the front office, have a valid ID, and obtain a visitors badge to enter the building.

Arrival Procedures:

Morning drop off is located at our cafeteria doors on Fairfax. All students should enter campus through the cafeteria doors each morning. Only students and staff are allowed to enter through the cafeteria doors. Breakfast will be served in the cafeteria, and is free to all students, from 7:00am-7:45am. Any student arriving to campus after 7:50am will need to have a parent walk them in through the front entrance doors.

Dismissal Procedures:

Parents should complete an After-School Dismissal Plan(with classroom teacher) so that teachers and staff have a written plan for each student.  Parents must call the front office or submit a written request for student dismissal changes by 2:30 p.m. each day.

Students in grades pre-k, kindergarten, and first will not be allowed to dismiss as "walkers". They must have an older sibling at Clarkston to walk home with them. Parents/guardians that are meeting walking students may meet their students at the stop sign on the corner of Pinecrest and Williamsburg Drive.

Parents may pick up their child by signing him/her out through the office (before 2:30pm).  Students will be released only to persons listed for student pick-up.  Anyone picking up a student shall be required to show valid identification.  When possible, schedule appointments during non-school times (After school, Student Holidays…)

Have a great weekend!
